Last week at our Principal Network meeting Jacquie French spoke about reading and its importance to the development of our students. I thought I would share some of her thoughts.
The more kids read the more neurons connect improving cognitive abilities. Screen time is the opposite. We currently have 1 in 5 Australian students not making international benchmarks and we can’t afford to slide. We have students coming to school who have never heard the human voice without TV in the background. We have students who have never had to concentrate before they come to school. Children need books. She finished with a quote to consider: “A book doesn’t speak to you unless someone gives you the words.”
Make sure that you give your children the gift of words by reading to them.
